Are You Virgin? A top Institute asks

   Established in 1983 on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of New Delhi, the Patna-based Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) is one of the biggest healthcare institutions in Bihar, India.
   A form circulated by IGIMS has asked its new employees to declare, among other things, whether they were virgins. The questionnaire has embarrassed doctors as well as the hospital staff. The declarations figure at the bottom of a “marital declaration” form circulated by the institute:

They ask them to clarify:

      a)“That I am a bachelor/widow/virgin”,
      b)“That I am married and have only one wife living”;
      c)“That I am married to a person who has no other wife living”;
      d)“That I am married and have more than one wife”; and, finally:
      e)“That I am married to a person who has another wife living.”

The questions on virginity in Indian context quite acceptable, but questions on fidelity are awkward.  Junior doctors said the statements were an attack on their privacy. But authorities have no intention to change it, rather they are proud of it.
